Some of you may be tempted to lean over and whisper “plastic,” but—thankfully—these two would ignore you and form Dr Dog instead.

“Graceful” Is Exactly The Right Word for Cold Specks

I’ve been a fan of Moby for a long time (and I mean a real fan, as defined by having liked him even before Play).  So when I saw yesterday that he was offering a free download of a remix of a song (“A Case for Shame”) from his forthcoming album, Innocents, of course I downloaded it immediately.  The lovely voice on the song, I discovered from Moby’s site, belongs to (in Moby’s words) “an amazing singer/musician from Canada.”  Her name is Cold Specks (real name:  Al Spx), she’s from Etobicoke, Ontario, and she’s now based in London.  And she’s the real thing.

It Ain’t George But...

My introduction to Beware of Darkness is a happy accident.  I was actually searching for Harrison’s “Beware of Darkness” and noticed this group and listened to one of their tunes.  Like all introductions to new music I was hesitant at first...and then curious, of course.

This Kind of Trouble is Great--Vintage or Otherwise

We’ve spoken elsewhere on this site about bands having that sound, that authenticity to them. Vintage Trouble is one of those bands that possesses that classic, timeless sound. They’re the sort of band that could have begun in 1968 as an R&B unit and still be putting out great albums here in 2013. Neither of those possibilities is the case, however.  They did not form in 1968 and they are not putting out albums in 2013.
