If you know Butch Walker at all, it’s likely that you know him not by name but by his work.  Over the last decade he has produced, co-produced, written, and co-written songs and albums for and with such artists as Bowling for Soup, Pink, Avril Lavigne, The Donnas, Lindsay Lohan, Pete Yorn, Panic! at the Disco, Taylor Swift, and, most recently, Fall Out Boy.  He truly is a hitmaker – his songwriting and producing skills are in tremendous demand.

The Avett Brothers and Many Pretty Girls

Beatlesque Country Rock

The Avett Brothers have that sound, like the Beatles doing country rock.  And that’s not actually as much of a stretch as it may sound.  The White Album had several country-rock tunes and there is a peppering in their other albums as well.  The Avett Brothers aren’t trying to sound like the Beatles, but every now and again one of their songs reveals that DNA.

The Wait for Some New V.V. Brown

 VV Brown's 2009 debut and to date, only release, Travelling Like The Light is a tremendous album...a vibrant mix of retro R&B, old-time and new wave rock and roll. Leave it to the Brits to inject some genuine and unabashed energy into what has been a largely ignored genre.

It won’t surprise regular readers of this site (hi, Mom!) that at least one of your reviewers has a particular fondness for hard-rock bands from the seventies.  Does anybody remember, for example, Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush?  How about the Pat Travers Band?  You know you loved them.  Go dig out those old LPs.  And remember that the scratches and skips just add character.
